Refresh Weekend – Russ Stendal

The folks at Gospel Chapel hugely enjoyed and were inspired by Russ Stendal’s messages during the Refresh weekend February 3 to 5, 2012.  Russ talked about his work in Columbia, his Bible translation and about friends, and what it means to be a friend of God.  If you missed any of the talks, you can download a copy to listen to on this page.  There are also links to the online copy of Russ’ Jubilee Bible, an English translation based on the earliest reformation translation work of both the Spanish Bible by Casiodoro de Reina and the English Bible by Tyndale — both based on the Textus Receptus manuscripts.

Who is Russ Stendal?

Russ Stendal was the guest speaker at Gospel Chapel's Refresh Weekend, Feb 3 to 5, 2012

Russell Stendal was born in Minneapolis and raised on the mission field in Colombia, South America. He

became a missionary jungle pilot at age nineteen. Almost ten years later he was kidnapped in 1983 by

Marxist rebels and held hostage for five months. His book, Rescue the Captors, relates his experience,

including how God worked in the hearts of the rebels.

Upon his release Russell was involved in evangelistic campaigns across Colombia as well as speaking in

the United States and Canada. He began a radio ministry to reach the fighting factions of the internal

conflict in Colombia with the Gospel. Galcom has partnered with him to produce a special dual frequency

solar powered short wave radio. So far over 48,000 Galcom radios have been deployed in violent areas of

Colombia. Galcom and ‘The Voice of the Martyrs’ have helped Russell to restart a missionary aviation

program in Colombia after missionary aviation had been suspended for ten years due to the violence.

Russell has written many other books, produced videos, and edited two Bible translations, the Spanish

Reina-Valera 2000 and the Jubilee Bible in English. A recent project has been recording the entire

Spanish Bible to be included on a microchip in the MegaVoice units developed by Galcom. Soon a

compact solar powered unit which combines a two frequency Galcom radio with audio Bible will be

available.

Over the past twenty-two years Russell has spoken many times at Missions Fest – Vancouver. The Lord has used

contacts obtained at Missions Fest to greatly enhance the ministry in Colombia. Thousands of New

Testaments were provided for members of the warring factions in Colombia through children at Missions

Fest who donated “Toonies for Testaments”. Another year, a large AM radio transmitter was provided

through a person who was challenged by a presentation heard at Missions Fest. Allan McGuirl, founder of

Galcom, met Russell Stendal at his Missions Fest booth and they began the project to provide 100,000

Gelcom units for Colombia. God is doing great things in Colombia today.

Jubilee English Bible Translation

Learn more about the Jubilee English and Spanish Bible Translations here:

One of the unique features of the Jubilee Bible is that each word in Hebrew has a single meaning, defined in the text the first time it is used in the scripture.  Words can be traced by their useage from Hebrew into the Greek.  Other Bible translations may use several words to render a single Hebrew or Greek word, but in the Jubilee Bible a single word is used throughout, which clarifies  the intended meaning.  This becomes clearer when you use digital tools for word study.

Parachutes drop Bibles and radios behind guerrilla lines in Columbia.

Can I help tell the Guerrillas about Jesus?

There are practical ways to help Russ in his ministry to the Colombian Guerrillas.  Russ and his team drop bibles, books, and radios behind guerrilla lines in Columbia.  The radios are tuned to Russ’ radio ministry and are turned on before they are dropped by airplane into Guerrilla territory.    This way if a radio is caught in a tree, someone will hear it and climb the tree to retrieve it.  Parachutes are needed to drop the radios.  You can help by making parachutes for the radios and Bibles.  A parachute is a 34 inch circle of cotton fabric with ribbon glued to the fabric at specific intervals to allow it to act as a parachute.

To participate see COLOMBIA: Gospel to FARC Guerrillas

and you will be able to download the pattern to make a parachute.  Consider gathering a group together to make parachutes and to pray for the guerrillas in Columbia.
