BlogPoll: Stuck in Neutral

Last weekend treated fans to a healthier dose of college football by trimming some fat. Gone from the ranks of the undefeated are obvious pretenders Michigan, Georgia Tech and Illinois, all of which lost in less than admirable fashion.

(I’m mainly looking at you, Yellow Jackets. It’s not every day a team gets knocked from the unbeatens by a university that claims Zima as its official beverage.)

Anyway, not much movement at the top, aside from flip-flopping Alabama and Clemson at two and three. At this point, I just like Clemson’s resume a little better. I’ll take the wins over Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech over Penn State, Florida and Arkansas. It’s really splitting hairs for the time being.

Notes:

*West Virginia was a big mover this week, but that’s primarily because I think I was underrating the Mountaineers previously more so than anything WVU did this week. I admit that I probably overcorrected this week, too.

*Michigan and Georgia Tech went the other way, naturally.

*Wisconsin has played no one of consequence on the road this season, which makes Saturday’s trip to East Lansing incredibly important for the Badgers. Win this and they’ll get a big boost.

*Stanford hasn’t exactly faced a murderers’ row yet, either. Saturday’s game against the Washington Huskies will be the Cardinal’s stiffest test yet. (They’re only favored by 20.)
