Hard Luck Heisman Bet

Andrew Luck
Online betting shop Bodog has released its 2011 Heisman Trophy odds, with Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones getting the second-best odds of any potential candidate at 13/2. (Hat tip to our buddy Adam Kramer at Kegs 'N Eggs Blog.)

To no one's surprise, Bodog lists slick Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck as the favorite at 9/2. Luck may play like he's been groomed to be a No. 1 NFL draft pick since he was a gleam in the West Virginia athletic director's eye, but pro potential doesn't necessarily make for a great Heisman candidate. The Cardinal caught the country's attention last year with an unexpected run to the Orange Bowl, but the attending expectations and departure of coach Jim Harbaugh mean Stanford will have a tough time living up to billing.

A disappointing year in the win-loss ledger would kill Luck's chances, so I'd stay away.

A few other observations:

(Continue…)

*Two years ago, who would have thought Landry Jones' name would come up in Heisman discussions? (OK, maybe one person.)

As the pilot of the Sooners' prolific offense, the 'Stache will undoubtedly put up some huge numbers this fall. The issue for Jones will be whether voters view him as more Jason White or Sam Bradford.

*Alabama running back Trent Richardson holds the best value at 12/1. Richardson arguably outplayed first-round draft pick Mark Ingram last year while the two split carries in the 'Bama backfield. With the Crimson Tide sharing national championship frontrunner status with the Sooners, Richardson will get plenty of pub.

*Could Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden (32/1) pull a Chris Weinke? With Holgo the Destroyer off to West Virginia, Weeden could have a tough time matching last season's output.

*Speaking of Holgo, I really like his new star pupil Geno Smith as a darkhorse candidate at 90/1. The tumultuous offseason in Morgantown and transition to a new head coach obviously introduces some uncertainty into the equation, but West Virginia has the kind of schedule that could set it up for a run at the national championship game.

*The worst bet on the board belongs to the player with the worst nickname in college football. Like the rest of his teammates Michigan QB Denard Robinson doesn't fit particularly well in what new head coach Brady Hoke wants to do. Robinson running coordinator Al Borges' West Coast offense sounds like a total waste of his talents

Robinson is this year's Evan Royster – bait for all the Big Ten suckers.

*If you think Boise State beats Georgia to start the season, I say Kellen Moore is worth is worth a shot at 15/1. Moore's odds of winning rest on the Broncos going undefeated, and UGa is the biggest obstacle standing in their way. Either way, hopefully he'll hire a style consultant before this year's ceremony.

Another great betting tip on the NFL is to pop over to your favourite online casino for a few spins on one of the hottest NFL themed slot games which is called 5 Million Dollar Touchdown found at Jackpot city. Fundamentally this is a five reel slot with twenty pay lines, but there is far more to it than that. The most exciting feature is that you really can win five million dollars. It’s not easy to do so, you need to bet the maximum on every pay line and spin five scatter symbols on just one of them, but when you do you get twenty times the top $15,000 single line win gifting you a massive $5,000,000.
