Notes:

*Close to home, Oklahoma’s resume took some hits this week with losses by Utah State, Air Force, Florida State, Cincinnati, Texas and Missouri.

*The winner of Utah-TCU on Saturday afternoon will have a strong claim on No. 1 next week, especially if TCU wins at Salt Lake City by a comfortable margin.

*Florida State’s tumble reflects the struggles of its opponents as much as its loss to North Carolina State. Virginia’s woodshedding of Miami makes the Seminoles’ best win look somewhat flimsy now.

*My Bloguin Heisman ballot: 1st – Cam Newton, QB, Auburn; 2nd – Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor; 3rd – LaMichael James, RB, Oregon.
