BlogPoll: Worst. Number One. Ever.

OK, I admit it – when you refuse to compromise on a college football rankings schema like mine, you’re going to end up with some bizarre results.

Last week, for instance, Homerism’s ballot had Kansas State in the top 10, along with BYU. A week later, they’re nowhere to be found.

My No. 1 team through the second week of the 2010 season has disgusted me at times in its first two games. I sat there Saturday night watching this squad slog through a miserable game with an opponent that should have been put out of its misery within the contest’s first 10 minutes. It was akin to witnessing an 11-year-old kid try to drive a Ferrari.

I’m talking about but the LSU Fightin’ Tigers, of course, undoubtedly the most frustrating team in recent memory to watch. The Bayou Bengals definitely haven’t impressed me with their play, which has been characteristically uneven for a squad coached by Les Miles. Still, the Tigers have beaten two teams from major conferences and have yet to play at Tiger Stadium. Two weeks into the season, that’s the best resume I’ve found.

With that in mind, on to the draft version of this week’s BlogPoll ballot.

Notes:

*I doubt Michigan finishes the 2010 season anywhere near this high. On the other hand, the Wolverines have demolished a team I picked to win the Big East, Connecticut, and held off a very game Notre Dame squad in South Bend.

*Having not played, Boise State didn’t do anything wrong this week to merit falling out of the top spot. However, if we’re ranking strictly based on achievement to date, the Broncos’ Labor Day win against Virginia Tech no longer looks that impressive. Hence, they have to fall.

*Oklahoma gave probably the most dominant performance of any team so far this season in a 30-point pounding of Florida State. Yet, while the Seminoles certainly have talent, it’s too tough at this point to gauge how good they really are. Additionally, OU has yet to play on the road this year. I think top 10 is fair for Bob Stoops and Co.

*Speaking of Oklahoma, the Sooners face a solid Air Force team this weekend. The Falcons tamed the BYU Cougars Saturday in a 21-point win and appear to be the strongest of the service academies this season. Coach Troy Calhoun’s team has served notice to Utah and TCU that it will have a say in the Mountain West race.

*My Bloguin Heisman ballot: 1st – Denard Robinson (QB, Michigan); 2nd – Kellen Moore (QB, Boise State); 3rd – Ryan Broyles (WR, Oklahoma).

Please explain my idiocy in the comments section.
