BlogPoll: Alabama Restores Order

Nick Saban

It took all of four weeks, but Homerism’s BlogPoll Top 25 ballot has come full circle – in a sense.

Alabama’s come from behind win in Fayetteville against a stellar Arkansas team convinced me to return my preseason No. 1 team back to the top of the poll. The Crimson Tide can tighten its grip on the top spot with a win Saturday against Florida, which checks in at No. 11.

Conversely, if the Gators can pull off a win at Bryant-Denny Stadium, that may put them at the top of the heap.

Aside from having the best body of work, Nick Saban also appears to have the best team in college football. ‘Bama still faces a number of landmines before the first weekend in December.

If the Tide can keep this up – and I have my doubts – it will have truly earned a chance to defend its 2009 title.

Notes:

*There are 25 undefeated D-I teams at the moment, all of which are included here. For all the fans of one-loss teams who think their squad should be in the top 25 over a team with a spotless record, allow my man Herm to set you straight.

*LSU continues to build a solid resume by beating its fourth opponent from a major conference. No other team can say that.

*I realize Indiana has beaten three tomato cans, so it probably doesn’t seem fair to have the Hoosiers ahead of a team like Arkansas. Michigan comes to town this weekend, which will give us a pretty good barometer of where this team really stands. (My guess is that will be outside the top 25.)

*Other matchups of top 25 teams this week: No. 18 Wisconsin at No. 19 Michigan State, No. 4 Stanford at No. 6 Oregon and No. 23 Texas A&M at No. 24 Oklahoma State.

*North Carolina State is quietly putting together a solid body of work. That win at Central Florida will end up looking solid at the end of the year.

*My Bloguin Heisman ballot:

  • 1st Place – Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
  • 2nd Place – Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
  • 3rd Place – Terrelle Pryor, QB, Ohio State
