The word of the day is: Pugilism

pu·gi·lismn. The skill, practice, and sport of fighting with the fists; boxing.

Last year Jeremy and I attended WWDC 2010. In line for the keynote, we killed some time playing Flight Control HD on my iPad. Two people drawing lines from airplanes to airports all over the screen at the same time becomes pretty frantic and is a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of multiplayer games on the iPad!

Later, I attended a series of sessions about effective video game development for iOS devices. One of the presenters made a comment about creating a consistent visual style: "You wouldn't have Abraham Lincoln in your game with a lightsaber and a mohawk." I thought to myself, well why not?

The two ideas above bumped around in my head for a little while..  and this is the result:

Presidential Pugilism is going to be Handelabra's first iOS game! It is a fighting/boxing game featuring the Commanders in Chief of the United States of America. Presidents (our nickname for it) uses full touch controls and is primarily focused on multiplayer fighting between two players on the same screen. The game is slated to come out sometime in 2011 for iPad, with an iPhone and iPod touch version to follow.

But you don't have to wait until sometime in 2011. We're bringing a demo of Presidential Pugilism to PAX East this weekend where you can try it out for yourself! Your feedback will be very important for us and you'll also have the chance to get into a limited beta program.

Not going to PAX East? Well don't fret. Keep an eye on this space where we'll be posting news and tidbits about Presidential Pugilism from time to time. You can also track the game in GAME.minder for free!
