And whilst she’s busy being all bridal and what not… I’m guest posting on her blog Indieberries today.

Check out more photos taken with my new to me Canon EOS 750 camera that I found in a charity shop for £3.99 (bargain!) on Indieberries today :)

Snow at Kirkstall Abbey…

I pushed my luck with the light with this film – it was just starting to get dark and even though I used a 400 film and my LC-A with its internal light meter, I’d say over half of the film is a blurry mess.

However, I did get some good shots so I think it was worth it. And I enjoyed the walk too.

Ladybird Likes in Leeds

In October my blog friend, the lovely Zoe, from Ladybird Likes came to visit and as well as helping her out with her stall at Reetsweet, we also went for a lovely little photo walk around Kirkstall Abbey.

I love meeting blog friends in person and Zoe was a joy to spend the weekend with, I’m so glad that she came to visit and Thomas and I both enjoyed showing her around Leeds and getting to know her better.

You can see Zoe’s beautiful film photos from the weekend here (with a cameo appearance of my hand) do check them out, I really love them as it was great watching Zoe take her photos and then seeing the final results.

Have a great weekend, I’m spending mine with my girls and I can’t wait already.

Keeping it real…

I’ve seen a lot of blog posts lately about ‘keeping it real‘ and it made me think about how I show my life… It’s difficult to lie as such through photos, but I can be selective of what I take photos of (especially when film cameras need sunshine) but as I was thinking about these posts and worrying if perhaps I keep it real enough, I decided to take my camera out on a rainy walk home rather than waiting for it to be sunny like I usually do. I think I love the results and also showing a more honest side of Yorkshire – it rains a lot here!

Lomo lovers film swap… the second set

A couple of weeks ago I posted some photos from the first film that got developed as part of my contribution to the Lomo Lovers film swap.
As I mentioned before, I was partnered with Davide and yesterday he shared the photos from the second roll of film. The film this time was Kodak Elitechrome 100 (which Davide
cross processed) that I orginally exposed with my La Sardina and sent to Davide in Italy(!) which he then put through his LC-A+.

These photos in particular I exposed at Kirkstall Abbey. I thought that at least one of the films I took should have some photos of there on it and I was really excited to see what Davide would expose over the top and I was not disappointed with the results. I particularly love the coffee sign!

Thank you so much to the Lomo Lovers – Nicola and Sam – for organising this swap…
and thank you, of course, to Davide too!
Hurray for film swaps!!!

A year later…

Kirkstall Abbey 1 A year later - Kirkstall Abbey 2Kirkstall Abbey 2 A year later - Kirkstall Abbey

I took these photos about a year ago when Adele came to visit and I thought it would be interesting to share a comparison shot to how they were and how they look now.

I’m not really surprised by the comparison as I knew that the Impossible Project film at the time was much more unstable than it is now (they’ve come a long way in a year but I still think they have a way to go…) and I’ve been fascinated with the differences, particularly the patterns. I can’t decide whether to be sad that they’ve changed so much or not though.

It will interesting to see if the photos that I took earlier this year will have changed much in a years time too I think.

Have a great weekend!

12 for 2012 – Camera 4

As part of my ‘take more photos’ goal for this year – I decided that I wanted to use more of the cameras that I haven’t actually used before in my collection.

Yes, I might have missed a camera in April… we’ll ignore that :) I can do two next month perhaps?
Also, it’s ok because this camera (and its results) are exciting!!!

340 Land

I’ve actually had this camera – a polaroid automatic 340 land camera – for a while now (perhaps a year, maybe more) and I’m now feeling like I’ve wasted the time that I’ve had with it as I love it so much already!

I’ve really struggled with polaroids in the past and I’ve never been able to find that micarulous balance with the Impossible Project film that others seem to find so beautifully. But finally I’ve found a polaroid that works for me and it works incredibly well!!

fuji 3000 1
Apart from when I haven’t checked that the battery is properly plugged in… oops. I was a little upset with this first picture but luckily, it was just the battery that was the problem and…

fuji 3000 2
Ta da! A photo is born!
{Please ignore our crazy long grass, annoyingly our landlord mowed it that afternoon after I’d taken this photo. I still love our garden though. And our washing line!}

fuji 3000 3

I’m so impressed with the focus on this camera – it has a rangefinder focus, which I’ve never used before but I loved. I also love the contrast that comes with the Fuji FB-3000B film, I was a little wary of the 3000 ISO but this film is blowing my mind! I’ve ordered some colour film too (I’m weak, I have a film problem) and I can’t wait to see how those look when I use it now too.

fuji 3000 4

I even attempted a double exposure with this camera but I seriously underestimated how sunny it actually was at the weekend and it came out very overexposed, I am thrilled that it worked though and now I know what to do for next time…

A little after work walk…

The week before I went home for the wedding, the weather was horrendous! (I sulked here lol) but luckily one evening on the way home there was a short break of sunshine and I took full opportunity of it by getting off the bus a few stops early and going for a little photo walk around Kirkstall Abbey with a camera for a film swap and my phone.
It started to rain again after a while (you can see splodges of rain on the last two photos) but I was so thrilled with the sunshine that I had managed to capture that I didn’t care…

Luckily this week is glorious (I mean, Summer glorius too, woo), I have a replacement LC-A and I now have two rolls of film to develop. I am enjoying combining both my film and instagram photos on here though – it gives me the opportunity to share more and thats never a bad thing right.

This weekend I’m hoping to take even more film photos (I think my mojo is back, huzzah!), experiment with my polaroid land camera and soak up some sunshine!

Have a great weekend!!

12 for 2012 – Camera 3

As part of my ‘take more photos’ goal for this year – I decided that I wanted to use more of the cameras that I haven’t actually used before in my collection.

I’ll admit that March’s camera nearly didn’t happen… I had an idea to use one of my unused 35mm cameras, but the month flew by and it got to last weekend and I realised… oops, it’s 31st of March.
Luckily for me, earlier in March the Impossible Project film and polaroid camera that I won from One Pearl Button arrived (Thank you so much again Alli!) and I decided that March was the month to try it!

12 for 2012 - #3 Polaroid P 600oopsyellow blossomAbbey DoorDaffodilsKirkstall Abbey

Rather than using the camera that arrived with the film (I think I’ll pop the B&W film in there) I decided to try out the first polaroid camera that Thomas found for me in 2009, I remember being so excited about it at the time so it seems unbelievable to me that I still haven’t used it…

Overall, I’m undecided on these photos… I love polaroids but I think that I love other photographers polaroid results more than I ever like my own. How do they do it?! These results to me look really green (and I’m not a fan of green in photos) and I am still disappointed by the undeveloped patches (apparently a known problem to The Impossible Project but still…) especially in that last photo, there should have been a beautiful blossom tree there.

Perhaps I’ll get the hang of them eventually. Or perhaps I’ll leave it to the more patient experts…

As close to perfect winter light as you can get…

Photo07_7Photo06_6Photo09_9Photo08_8Photo10_10Photo12_12Photo13_13

Oh boy I am excited about these photos… it’s well known that the LC-A (refurbished and the plus) works incredibly well with cross processed film and I decided to try a new slide film with my LC-A – Kodak Elite Chrome 100. I’ve never tried it before and I’m really glad that I love the results, it’s not as blue as the Lomography Xpro Chrome and the greens are much more pleasing than the Lomography Xpro. It seems warmer than both the Lomography films though and the contrasts are just stunning I think.

I also experimented a little with the aperture and depth of field with these and I think that may be worth while when using the focus with this particular refurbished LC-A as it seems a little fuzzier than I would prefer at close range… I’m really hoping that I can learn this little cameras quirks as when it works well, I love the results.

p.s. does anyone with a refurbished LC-A have any tips for close up photos being in focus?

A sunny Winter day at Kirkstall Abbey…

Over Christmas I shot a little film of us taking Harry for a walk… but it didn’t work, the film was completely blank and my heart was a little bit broken…
So, last weekend we took my little Lomokino out and shot a quick little film around Kirkstall Abbey to make sure it was working ok. And thankfully, it worked!! Hurray!

I’m so relieved… I’ll just have to try and make a video of Harry another time!

Happy weekend!

p.s. finding the perfect music to match my videos is my new favourite hobby… getting the right is one is the best feeling.

Forgotten Holga photos… (again)

I took these last April when my dear friend Adele came to visit (Can you believe that’s nearly a year ago?!) and I completely forgot about them, in fact I’ve only just put them onto Flickr as I sorted through last years photos.

Experimenting with F Stops…

I actually don’t remember the last time I was this excited about my photos… squeeeeeeee!!

Although Photo Meditations isn’t a technical photography course, I did learn something new about F stops and I realised that I had actually taken some photos with my Ricoh camera where I had changed this setting and not realised the effect it would have (here and here, being good examples) At the time of developing them I realised that they were the kind of photos that I wanted to be taking… but I didn’t know how I’d even done it.

So armed with knowledge, my new to me Olympus Trip and more enthusiasm than I’ve ever had on a foggy day, Thomas and I went for a walk around Kirkstall Abbey (and also a delicious roast dinner…) last Sunday and here are some of my favourite results.

I was drawn to that yellow tree like a magpie to shiny things, it was a beacon in the mist and so pretty. I had to have a photo taken with it… I’m a bit sad that it’s a little blurry but a lot of the photos were as I still have lots to learn.

I’m so glad that I learnt this though, most of my plastic cameras don’t have this setting but two of my other film others do and it feels great to know now that I can take the type of photos that I want with a different camera and not feel limited by my equipment or knowledge.

In this one film of photos, I feel like I’ve pushed myself, my photos and what I can do. I’ve applied everything I’d already learnt combined it with new tricks and techniques and captured photos that I have been truly happy with. Although this does mean I’ll be carrying even more cameras around with me now…

Photos from the camera I built…

The title for this post alone makes me happy… a camera I built. I’m still amazed about that… anyway, here are the photos. I love Leeds in the Autumn, especially around Kirkstall Abbey, its the perfect place to test cameras.

I have a great feeling about this camera – it’s everything a plastic toy camera should be – it’s fun, it’s experimental, it’s unique and it gives some interesting effects. It’s easy to do multiple exposures and I love the lens flare. It’s light, compact and it feels even better in your hands for knowing how it’s constructed and also for the knowledge that it has a missing screw somewhere
(haha, oops, the instructions are fun to decipher…)

You can see the entire set of photos on Flickr here.
(Dad, click there! When you finally read this :p )

Have a great weekend!!

Around the Abbey with my family…

With Kirkstall Abbey being so close to our house, it is nearly always the first place that we take people when they come to visit and Friday with my Grandparents was no exception.

I always love looking around the Abbey with different people and different cameras as I always look at it a little bit differently and using my phone camera (and Vignette app) I got to pick up a lot more details of the abbey than I would have done with my Lomography cameras.

Luckily the weather held out for us whilst we were walking around (you can see we’re all wearing coats in case of rain lol) and we got to see the Abbey in its full glory!

p.s. I kind of love the over the top light leaks that this app gives – I never really get those with my fim cameras and I’d probably not be entirely thrilled if I did – but it definitely has a certain charm when used with these photos. I’m having far too much fun with this app!

Around Kirkstall Abbey with Adele Part 2

Thomas and I love Kirkstall Abbey and it’s always so fun sharing it with other people. We had the perfect evening for walking around on Saturday too – the sun was shining, we took so many photos and we had fun, yeay!!

{All photos taken by Thomas. I love him.}

p.s. my little giveaway of some black and white prints ends tomorrow, don’t miss out!

Kirkstall Abbey Polaroids!

Eeeeeee, we had the most amazing weekend ever!

Adele is amazing and pretty and lovely and adorable and so kind… gah, I love her and I am still so happy that she came to visit (especially after her terrible journey to get here!)

I have so much I want to share but first… polaroids. After chatting with Adele about the impossible film that we both tried, I decided to brave it and take the rest of mine with us on our walk around the abbey and they turned out well!!

Adele and I at Kirkstall Abbey

{we kind of look a bit like ghosts…} Kirkstall Abbey 2Kirkstall Abbey 1

I’m so excited about them, I think the last two may even be shop worthy! What do you think?

I’m so glad that I tried using these again… now I just have to resist buying the new ones!!

p.s. you can’t tell but Adele is wearing a yellow skirt… just one of the reasons she is amazing.

Phone photos…

My phone is slowly dying… it makes me sad. So I’m slowly backing up all the photos that I’ve taken with it lately. These are my favourites at the moment!

Doesn’t our path look pretty! I’ve been anxiously waiting for all the bulbs that we planted to flower and there they are, hurray! We just put seeds down for the Summer too, I hope they come up as well! Also I love when the daffodils are out around the Abbey too… and Harry’s little face.

Happy weekend!!

p.s. you’d only get graffiti that looks like it says tea in England right? Haha.

Around Kirkstall Abbey in Redscale…

I beginning to believe that Kirkstall Abbey was built with the sole purpose of being photographed, by me, with this film…

Photo31_28APhoto27_24APhoto24_21APhoto22_19APhoto19_16APhoto21_18A

I don’t think thats crazy… do you??

Though this film has broken my heart a little bit – I don’t think it dried properly so some of the photos look wrinked… and about 8 of the photos didn’t scan in the lab. Sad.

p.s. having a little break from camera posts… I’m not entirely sure how to break the 35mm ones down but I’ll share more when I’ve figured it out :)

A walk around Kirkstall Abbey in the sunshine…

Fond memories of snow…

Now that all the snow has gone and my feet are warm and dry, I find myself warmly remembering the snow, especially our walk together around Kirkstall Abbey.

It really looked lovely… totally worth the frozen feet!

p.s. I took these at the same time as the fuji instax photos, which just makes the fact they were so purple even more confusing (and fun).

Shades of Purple…

Just like the first heart picture, the rest of the fuji instax mini’s that I took in the snow also came out with purple tones to them – I think that I love them though.

A fisheye Christmas…

These photos were all taken on my phone with the fisheye lens held in front of it – what do you think? Not amazing but still sooooo much fun :)

We started our Christmas celebrations last weekend watching some Carol Singers in Kirstall Abbey – it was the perfect location – just a shame none of us could feel our toes afterwards!
We then wandered about the Abbey for a bit drinking Mulled wine and taking photos (of course)

And then we had an amazing christmas dinner with our friends and we made Yule Log – I can happily admit that it was delicious!

I can not wait for the next few days!

p.s. Check out the latest featured blogger on Diamond in the Rough - I love her!

p.p.s. Don’t forget about the last Christmas giveaway! The winner is announced tomorrow!

Out and about…

Around Kirkstall Abbey with a mild addiction to the panorama setting on my phone and taking photos of our feet… Such fun!

*The photo of our feet wasn’t taken with the panorama setting – I just cropped it so it looked pretty next to the other two.*

The last of Roll 2…

Here are the final pretty pictures from the second roll of film that I took with Helga… I love the contrast of the shadows in the top photo. In the other two photos I was experimenting with the double exposure again – its far too much fun!!

I managed to find some 35mm film in Poundland at the weekend so I now have 5 rolls to use up – I can’t wait to use them next weekend!

p.s. Big Hello to my new followers Onic, Carlene and Urban LifeStyle Decor – check out their amazing blogs… especially the puppies - awwww!

Reasons I love Leeds #2

The more I think about it, the more I do not want to move away from Leeds anytime soon. I always thought I would eventually move back to Norfolk, buy a house… yada yada yada* but I just can’t see it happening yet…

We are luckily enough to live within a sensible walking distance of the Kirkstall Abbey, so on the nicest day of the year so far we decided to go for a walk.

As it was Bank Holiday the trains were running – not worth us going on it really, but it is cute!

The Abbey looked stunning in the sunshine…

and Boyfriend treated us to ice creams!

I had a Zzapp! He spoils me :)

*Sorry about the yada yada – we watched alot of Seinfeld over the weekend… oops

Things I’ve learnt from blogs this week…

Well its been a bit of a slow week on my side… the bank holidays have totally thrown me. My sleep patterns are weird, my days are all muddled and my brain is confused. Thankfully other blogs aren’t suffering the same afflictions… phew!

  1. You can get married at Kirkstall Abbey – how lovely!
  2. Coloured tape makes gift wrapping so much better.
  3. I would be so happy if I could draw like this…
  4. I am fascinated with weddings and wedding dresses at the moment and I don’t even want to get married.
  5. Storm chasing photography is amazing!

Let’s hope I wake up a bit more next week
