Lomography Scanning Masks

Scanning Mask 3

Out of all the hobbies I’ve picked up, photography is the most expensive. Whenever I pick up one of my cameras, the only thing I can think of are the prices adding up for the film, yikes!

I picked up the DigitaLIZA Scanning Mask on Lomography for 35mm and 120mm, hoping to ease the pain of my financial stress when it comes to film developing. It’s about $18 per 120 film, multiply that by about 3 rolls a month, that makes about $648 a year. Holy moly! I’ll be using these and get back to you on it. Cross your fingers and toes they work out!

  • Oh, neat. I'm sure these will be great. I bought a scanner earlier this year that can scan negatives and it was one of my most sensible purchases! Those CDs add up and add so much clutter.

  • looking forward to what you come up with! :) happy weekend, friend.

  • oh please please please let me know about this, lady! mike has taken up shooting 120 film and our poor budget can't hack it! i'd love to snag him one of these for christmas or our anniversary if you give them the thumbs up!

  • As you may or may not know, I'm still getting back into the swing of things, but I remember your blog was under construction and I knew I had to check out the final result! And I must say it's so cute! Very you! I adore the new makeover! I'm still in the process of catching up, you shall be hearing from me soon again! Take care and hope you've been well :)

I wanna hear all about it too! I was looking into this one time and then looking into buying a scanner another time but nothing amounted to anything lol. Would be a whole lot easier to hear from a voice I trust.

  • Rhianne says:

I've been thinking about getting the same thing! Do they work with any scanner or do you need a specific one? (lol, I could just look myself couldnt i?) I'll be catching up with you to see how they are :)

i would love to invest in more cameras… but you're right, it's such an expensive hobby!

  • Katie says:

Im scared about getting a film camera because of the costs! Hope the scanning masks work well! :)

  • Very cool!

  • biscuit says:

you are so talented with photography, i don't think you have anything to worry about.

  • I can't wait to hear your thoughts, Im terrible for getting film developed so these sound perfect!

  • Ashley says:

Film is expensive but so worth it! I love taking photos with film. I hope you post about whether these scanning masks work, because it almost as expensive to get someone to scan film as it is to develop it!

oh girl. i hear ya. sometimes i want to try new hobbies, but they sure add up and rarely seem to pay for themselves. ugh!try having painting as a hobby. it costs a flipping fortune to buy canvas and brushes and paints, and then everyone wants you to give them a painting FOR FREE. argh! my dad works with wood for fun, and has spent a fortune buying wood and equipment. my mom does stained glass work, and she has the same issue. plus their house is now overrun TO THE MAX with wooden bowls, vases, rocking chairs, and stained glass galore! hilarious!sorry for the long comment! have a fab weekend!

  • Jess says:

Blimey that is expensive so hopefully they work!

  • Katy says:

Oooh, yeah. Having recently discovered that the Yashica Mat 124G I got for $20 at an antique show works, I'm in the same boat myself with suddenly having to think about paying for film and developing and prints and all. Hope these work nicely!

  • I've been curious about these masks since I saw them on the Lomo site. I'm also trying to figure out how to save money on film photography. It's a bit cheaper to get 120 film developed in Taipei where I live (about US$6), but with the price of each roll of film being what it is, it definitely adds up. I'm looking forward to seeing your results!(I found your blog via the comments section on Pugly Pixel, by the way).the renegade bean

  • Honestly, that's what keeps me from buying a camera (Diana, but of course) and encouraging my burgeoning photography habit. My measly teacher's salary just can't pay for the film AND the bills. :-(
