Penguin Ink

If you frequent this blog, readers would know I love books and tattoos. The combination of both? Love.

Penguin has a new limited edition book designs- Penguin Ink. Tattoo inspired book covers! I eyed a beautiful cover of Money in the bookstore, and wondered what other Penguin Ink designs were available. Below are my favorites.

Bridget Jones

waiting for the barbarians

The broom of the system

After going digital with most of my books, I kept only my first editions, and ones with such beautiful covers as this collection. I love all books, but when you have a love of books, marry a librarian with a love of books, live in a small apartment, something has to go.
Plus, don’t even get me started on the argument on digital vs paper.  I’m a huge advocate for reading. I love seeing a person in a long line on an e-reader, or iPhone/iPod touch reading, when they normally would never pick up a book. I have a love/hate relationship with technology, but it does have it’s perks, such as making reading more convenient for those who wouldn’t otherwise.
However, these will be happily added to my printed book collection.

You can see more here, but of course, Amazon has the better deals here.

Hi Diana, Thanks for stopping by my blog!! I've got to start posting more often. I'm with you reading any way is good, but I need the book book. Something about the soul of a book in your hands. And if it's from a library it's probably been read many times and (hopefully) enjoyed. So I like to believe it carries all of that around in its pages.

  • Diana says:

I agree getting it from the library is a plus. I don't believe the soul is in the book, though. I believe the soul is in the author, not the paper. Thanks for the comment! xo

  • Maddy says:

These covers are stunning! I haven't crossed over to the "dark side" with an e-reader, but I guess the benefits of having one.

Oh my word! I'm going to need the Bridget Jones's Diary. That cover is so cute.I don't care what people say about the movie. I loved the book & laughed out loud so many times. (and to be completely honest, I loved the movie too!) ;)

Those are so cool! I haven't given up my books yet, but I'm sure someday I'll switch to digital. I resisted with cds, but now I haven't bought one in years. So while I'm still buying tons of books I know at some point I'll give it up and buy a Kindle or something. Books are such a pain to move anyway!

  • katrina says:

i give Penguin Books big props for making books even more appealing by creating special editions of certain books, even if the only difference is the cover. i bought two of the Penguin Classics Hardcovers. though i wanted to buy them all, i restricted my purchase to my favorites: Pride & Prejudice and Wuthering Heights.these tattoo-inspired book covers are so PRETTY — they would make quite a collection!

  • DearBeatrice says:

So neat!! My favorite is the Bridget one. I so want to buy that version even though I already have a different non cool one, haha ^.^

  • Sara Lynn says:

OMG those are soooo cool! I want I want! I am a book freak too, If I am not on the internt, at work or eating food, I read. Sometimes I still read while doing those other things as well. :P

  • laynemarie says:

Oh wow. These are gorgeous!!! These days I only buy paper books if it's not available in e-book or it's an art/design/cookbook/coffee table type book. But holy crap, I think I might have to pick up a couple of these, starting with Bridget Jones.

  • CaL says:

Those are SO cool & totally amazing!!! So you! I just love turning the pages & feeling the paper & the SMELL of real books…I'm a huge addict!

  • Hanako66 says:

oh no… more penguin re-issues that i have to get my hands on!

  • Elle Sees says:

    Simply amazing. I'm in love!

  • OMG this is the best combination for you, that is so amazing! Yeah I saw those Penguin books for Alice in Wonderland and Pride and Prejudice at Anthropologie, they're so wonderful. I wish I could own millions of books, I love the smell of old books :)

  • April_Layne says:

I totally agree on the e-book thing: I don't care how they're reading, as long as they're reading! As a young adult librarian, I love that you can read on technology now, because it will get reading material into the hands of the most unlikely people. And I, too, love those tattoo covers. Fabulous!

  • Amy says:

Woo, those book covers are fantastic. I hadn't heard of Penguin Ink before.

  • Mo says:

Very cool. I love the cover for Bridget Jones Diary, never would have guessed unless I read close! After spending all day on the computer for work, I don't think I'd like reading anything but a book on paper. Flipping the pages, I don't think I'd be able to do without that.

  • drollgirl says:

these are FANTASTIC book covers! love them!i like to have a tangible book in front of me. i love to. i can't do the digital book thing. but to each his/her own. and you might like the art of tony fitzpatrick. his collages and prints always remind me of tattoos. he is a nut, but he makes some great art.

  • Ashlee says:

I can't decide how I feel about e-readers. For some reason, I feel like I would be cheating on my real books (yes, I have a relationship with my books, and we have a good thing going). Plus, it's nice to give my poor eyeballs a break every once in a while from staring at a screen. But you're right–reading is reading and if technology aids people in that, so be it! If you ever want to take up paper versions again, I am OBSESSED with Swaptree. You can swap books with people all over the country and get new books for free, while passing along the ones you don't mind parting with. Kind of like book recycling with strangers. http://www.swaptree.com

  • emma wallace says:

I do both: I love that I can get some out-of-print books on my Kindle app on my iPhone, but I really like being able to flip back pages and the smell of paper and the weight of the book… I'm all for anything that encourages people to read, though! I just have to have a little of both. And those covers are brilliant! I especially like the Bridget Jones one.

  • melly says:

What an interpretation for a cover of the Bridget Jones's Diary! Ever since I saw the film, I can't shake off the image of Renee Zellweger and her sorry self in my head. So this is great! I really dislike using the word 'refreshing' to describe things but it's most apt.

  • Michelle says:

Eeek! Lovely tattoo-inspired covers! :) I'm a book lover and refuse to go digital…though it is cool that peeps who normally don't read are taking the leap – book or digi-book! Actually, in pop-up book making class at the local art university, the subject of 'the dying book' came up, and my brilliant teacher said she thought books would become more and more of a beautiful, sought-after object in and of themselves. :) Case in point! :)

  • I love these. The old school imagery is captivating, especially the last one. Despite the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" it is impossible not to.-indigo

  • Stephanie says:

Those book covers are fantastic!I'm not a fan of e-readers, I need the whole sensory experience that goes with reading a real book. And I have trouble letting go of them. Just today I was at my parents' house and my mom asked me to go through the 5 boxes of books I was keeping at their house and take the ones I wanted to keep. I came home with 5 boxes of books. ;-)

  • Monster Girl says:

    Wow. These are SO COOL.

  • Lolo says:

These are amazing! I love a pretty book cover. And I'm covered in tattoos so I appreciate the fact that Penguin can see the beauty in tattoo artwork too.

  • Teresa says:

Oooh! That's a really awesome idea! I love the Bridget Jones one. So pretty! :)

  • grapgirl says:

so weird – i work in a bookstore and i noticed the day after seeing them on your blog – only our covers aren't in color!

  • Emily says:

    Very cool. 'Nuff said.
