361 Degrees Podcast: Episode 4 – Getting ‘in touch’ with NFC

NFC (Near Field Communication) - the short-range wireless technology that can do everything from unlocking a door to making a payment – is a hot topic at the moment. Many mobile operators and financial services firms have announced they are looking at the technology whilst the ‘will they / won’t they’ rumours about Apple adopting it in the next iPhone continue to rage.

Episode 4 - We discuss NFC and to help us this week we recruit the help of an expert. Why didn't we think of that before...?

In Episode 4 we recap Ewan’s recent Unlimited Drinks event and then set about discussing NFC. With help from ‘special guest’ Raymond Lee an expert from Consult Hyperion we discuss:

  • What is NFC?
  • How and where could it be deployed?
  • Who the key players are and some potential conflict
  • Ben‘s frustration that the focus on ‘mobile wallets’ ignores better uses
  • Ewan‘s view that Apple could be the company to move NFC payments into the mainstream
  • Rafe‘s concern that the global standards needed will be tripped up by the number of organisations involved
