Get Your Sunny Spring Laps In!

You may all have heard this already, but Grouse is going to stay open till May2nd. And yes, there will be a park on Cut as long as there’s enough snow. Either way, Grouse is going to be the place to be on the North Shore till May starts. Get up and get shredding. I went up last night with Grouse local, Callem Peake, and it was a beauty. The sun’s out longer and the snow is staying softer later into the night. you have no excuse not to be there.

Oakley Year End Jam: Sunny Skies, Good Friends, Hecka Prizing

Yesterday afternoon, on a spring day that could not have been any more perfect than it was, with a park setup built especially for the occasion, the good folks at Grouse Mountain Terrain Parks and Grousepark.com threw a season ending jam for the ages. Shaw Butterworth, Marcus Cartwright, Adam Nicolls, Tom Robinson and Dan Ripper were up early yesterday morning, hoping to get some solid build time, only to run into technical difficulties. With all issues finally resolved at 10 am, they went to work to build a formidable set up consisting of two jumps, a hip and a variety of rails. The hip seemed to be the feature of the afternoon, with kids sending it bigger than I’ve ever seen at a local Grouse event. I won’t ramble on too much as the other bloggers will be bringing you better coverage, pictures and some Go Pro footage. I just want to thank everyone from park crew that was there helping with the jam. Rob Morrison came out for his afternoon shift and helped out huge with course maintenance and tear down. I also want to give a huuuge shout to Jeff Silcock, Grouse Mountain’s Events and Sponsorship manager. Jeff is a background guy, you don’t really see what he does, but without this guy, we’d have no park and the parks definitely would not have grown to where they are. Jeff was there taking pictures all afternoon and you can find them all on our Facebook fan page.

Thanks to our sponsors, Quiksilver, DC, Oakley and Roxy, as well as Pow Gloves for hooking up over $3000 worth of prizing. Also, huge thanks to everyone that showed up and ripped hard. Most of you took a tongue lashing from me and put up with it. Not that you really had a choice. It’s tough love, kiddies. You’ll thank me one day. I called the local scene out on their lack of A-game, but you all definitely brought the noise yesterday. We’ll be back next season with more prizing to give away, hopefully I’ll be back as well, but that’s up to Jeff and the crew downstairs. Here’s to hoping we can get the parks bigger and better next year!

Season Bender Oakley Park Jam

Aight kids, it’s here, the last Oakley park jam of the season. We’re dropping this one on a weekend and doing it in the afternoon, so you have no excuse to not be there. This Saturday, April 10th, we’re gonna get things started at 1pm. The format is simple, ride and we’ll hook you up if we something we like. The prize pool is going deeper for this one. We’ve got goggles, sunglasses, softgoods, outerwear, boots and even a board to give away for this event, so you’ll definitely want to be there and you’ll want to bring your friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, friends you used to hang out with in elementary but now hate because they wear Ed Hardy. You get the idea. Park crew has been killing it with their park builds and the Cut park has been extended further down the cut to accommodate 3 jumps and a hip as well as a bunch of jibs. There are also some features that you normally wouldn’t see in the park on an average day, which will be closed till Saturday. You’ll be getting a sneak peek at those tomorrow morning if you check back.

So, there you have it. Saturday at 1, the Peak of Vancouver is gonna get hyphy. Rumour has it that PYP will also be out in full force. you won’t want to miss this one.

Results are in. Looks like Nate Konyi takes this one convincingly. Congrats to all the runner ups. Brian Choi was in second and kept it pretty tight. Photo Contest Finalists

Hey all,

We’ve finally got the finalists for the photo contest. The response was huge and we’re stoked on the submissions that came in. There were a bunch of good shots and narrowing it down was a challenge. In the end, our crew decided on four finalists, instead of the originally planned three. They are Colton Labou, Brian Choi, Josh Remund and Nate Konyi. Below are their submissions. As of tomorrow night, these pictures will be on the Grouse Mountain Terrain Parks Facebook page and you’ll have all Easter long weekend to vote on your favourite one. Come Monday morning, at 10am, the picture with the most likes will win the contest and the photog will walk away with a pair of Grouse Mountain/Oakley collab Crowbars and some out swag. Yet Another Park Rebuild

Due to the mad sun we’ve gotten in the past couple days, Quik park is once again closed, but park is now rebuilt on Cut. I don’t know what’s there, so check the Grouse Mountain Terrain Park site before you head up.

Photo Contest Extension

Due to the recent park rebuild, Quik park being open again and the current rad weather, we’re pushing the contest deadline to Monday, March 22nd. That gives you the entire weekend in Quik park to get some banger shots. Please don’t email me all the pictures on your hard drive, pick three and I’ll choose your best one. Any emails with more than three attachments will be ignored. Sounds like a jerk move, but I don’t want my email server taking three days to open an email. So get out and start shooting!

No Lies This Time

I messed up last time and said that there was a park on Cut. My bad for all the excitement that caused. However, Quik park is up and running again and features two jumps and a bunch of street style rails. Hallelujah, go and ride. Big ups to Park Crew!

Mid March Photo Contest

Hey all,

We’ve got a bunch of stuff to give away , so we’re having another Grousepark.com contest. Up for grab are a pair of Grouse Mountain/Oakley Crowbar collab goggles as well as a prize pack from our sponsors. Here’s the rundown.

Take some pictures of anything ski/board realated.
Pick your favourite.
Email it to contest@grousepark.com.

From there, our team of bloggers will pick the top three entries and the pictures will get posted on our Facebook fan page. Then you gotta get your friends to vote on it by liking the pictures. The shot with the most like in two days will win the contest. Simple as that! Deadline for photo submissions is Wednesday, March 18th and please include rider credits if possible.

Remember: They have to be pictures that you have taken, not pictures of you riding taken by someone else. This is for up and coming photogs.

Skiing Hits the Waves

Just when you thought you’d seen everything, those crazy skiers have taken over the waves. It seems that regardless of what board sport it is, there is a ski equivalent. Skateboarding has rollerblading, snowboarding has skiing, wakeboarding has wakeskiing, but till now, the OG board sport, surfing, was assumed to be safe. Not the case anymore. The Solomon freeski team has figured out a way to ski waves. In my opinion, it looks pretty ghetto and I hope it goes nowhere, but I’m just biased. Let’s see you guys get a wave without a jet ski.
