it’s finally here – the apocalypse hoodie

by ysolda on February 22, 2006

A simple zip up hooded cardigan knit from the top down using a modified figure of eight cast on and no seams. There is an intarsia and duplicate stitch tree detail at the bottom of the left front and the extended cuffs are knit in a contrast colour with thumbholes.

The pattern is written in the following sizes, however it is also easy to custom fit to any size.
xs, s, m, l, xl, xxl, xxxl.

Bust: 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44) inches
81.5 (86.5, 91.5, 96.5, 102, 112) cm.

The following materials are required:

MC: Approx 490 (550, 570, 600, 630, 660, 770) yards / 450 (500, 520, 550, 580, 600, 650) metres of bulky weight yarn. I used Rowan Polar in Stormy.

CC: Approx 56 yards / 50 metres of bulky weight yarn. I used Rowan Polar in Silver Lining.

A small amount of tapestry yarn in a colour that matches MC.

1 26 (26, 26, 28, 28, 28, 28) inch / 66 (66, 66, 71, 71, 71, 71) cm open ended zip.

Along with:
1 size 11 (8mm) 32? (80cm) or longer circular needle.
1 set of size 11 (8mm) double pointed needles.

The guage is:
12 stitches and 16 rows = 4? (10cm) measured over stocking st.

The pattern includes step by step instructions for working the modified figure of eight cast on. There are 9 pages including full directions, schematics and the chart for the tree.

Hi
Love the hoodie! Bit too advanced for me yet, I’m just on my third ever knitting project. Thought I’d pop by to say hello to a fellow crafter! My blog is at http://www.myspace.com/superflexee. Let’s hope I finish my third project to post it online…

Ooh I think I’m going to have to buy that, and make it with that Polar that’s on CucumberPatch.

It’s funny, I just realised, two of the things I’m knitting right now are your patterns! The uhmm, illusion scarf thing, and Arisaig!
And now this, as soon as I get money at the beginning of next month! Hopefully…:|

hi catherine – i checked out your blog, that baby sweater is quite an impressive second project. This hoodie honestly isn’t that difficult. Learn by doing is my general attitude though. Where are you studying – I’m in my third year doing english at edinburgh?

And Becky – that’s particularly weird when you consider that that means you are currently working on half of the patterns I’ve ever published anywhere. It’s very flattering though.

does anyone know why that button is appearing with such big spaces above and below it?
I’ve spent ages poring over my stylesheet and I honestly have no idea why it’s happening. anyway it’s annoying the hell out of me and I know some of you are even geekier than me – so if you can tell me how to fix it I’ll love you forever.

It is weird isn’t it?
But I’ve been ‘working on’ the scarf for the last … 6 months or something, I don’t know, ages. I get bored of making scarfs pretty quickly! :P

I really like that jumper. I’ve been looking for a hooded cardy, but not been able to find a nice one… also thumb holes… how I love thumb holes!

Your Paypal button has such big gaps above and below it because of all the which are at the end of each line of the form. Get rid of them and the gaps will go…. but I’d leave a few to make the button stand out more.

Yes, geek I am.

Silly girl not enough of a geek to realize that the html won’t show up here…. get rid of the (pointy bracket) br/ (close pointy brackets).

wonderful – I knew it was something simple. I guess wordpress auto formats text by adding tags everytime you hit return.
Thankyou.

Aside from being in love with the sweater, I am also in love with you for including so many different sizes in your pattern. Rock!

Sad that I can’t shell out the cash *quite* yet, but – come the 28th/Payday – I am *so* on this.

Cheers!
Rachel

How much wearing ease is intended for the finished garment? For example, would someone with a 34 inch chest want to make the 36 inch size?

Thanks Ysolda, that wee cardie took ages but was so satisfying to finish! I know what you mean, I find just trying is the best way to learn knitting. The reason I chose a baby-doll project was cos it was cheap, easily frogged and good practice! I’m in Glasgow, study with Open University. Finish this year – yay!

Ivorette – there is no ease include in the pattern sizes. The sizes given are the finished sizes of the hoodie. Whether you make a size bigger than your actual measurements is entirely up to you – I suggest working the number of raglan increases given for your actual size and then trying it on. You can then add more ease depending on how you want it to fit.
It’s a very customizable pattern. Hope that helps.

Why isn’t this pattern on the list of patterns to the left? I had to do a Google Search for it to get on this page!
