Plaid Schoolgirl Dress

It’s finished! Almost… still need to make a removeable white collar :) I wore it to a club yesterday and it was great! I like that it’s not too short and since the fabric is on the heavier side I don’t have to worry about the skirt flipping up or anything. I still need to “clean up” the inside of it, zig-zag all the seam allowance and such (I finished about an hour before I had to leave so I didn’t have time and I really wanted to wear it haha).

As I said in this post: “I based this on the burdastyle pattern “Dress with wide pockets”, but since they didn’t have my size (smallest was a 36) I had to make it smaller. And I lowered the neckline, shortened the sleeves and plan to shorten the skirt and add in-seam pockets.”

And the pockets are super handy! I kept my phone and keys in them all night so I didn’t have to be too worried about putting my bag down to dance :)

Cool Pocket – WIP

I hate taking photos with the flash but alas, it is 3 in the morning, I don’t have much of a choice…

Working on the handy pockets for the plaid schoolgirl dress! This one’s the “iPhone pocket”, and the other will be the “keys and wallet” pocket (still need to find some ribbon for it though…).

As for the dress itself, I’m so indecisive when it comes to pleats! After rearranging them about 9 times I settled on five, almost 3cm wide box pleats, but I’m not sure if I like it. So I am going to bed now, at 3.15 and will look at it again tomorrow. Maybe I’ll change it to a knife pleat (what bothers me about those pleats are that they only go one direction! No symmetry! What’s up with that? How am I supposed to decide which way the pleats go? uggh decisions, decisions…).

The Schoolgirl Dress – WIP I

This is how far I am with the tin bank inspired “Therapy” Dress. I based this on the burdastyle pattern “Dress with wide pockets”, but since they didn’t have my size (smallest was a 36) I had to make it smaller. And I lowered the neckline, shortened the sleeves and plan to shorten the skirt and add in-seam pockets.

About those pockets: they will be fantastic! I want them to be able to hold my iPhone, wallet and keys so I don’t need a purse when I’m wearing this dress :) I’ll explain in more detail tomorrow.

I plan on using the two golden buttons to as closures for the pockets.
